Styling your Baby Bump

maternity style

I know this blog post won’t be of much interest to my non-pregnant followers, but since becoming pregnant myself, and just about to enter my third trimester, I felt it would a fun topic to write about and perhaps provide some guidance to my fellow baby bumpers!

As I am quite short-waisted, my little bundle became a bit of nuisance quite early in the piece when it came to what I could and couldn’t wear. Being my first pregnancy, it took some time getting used to learning how to dress my body differently and realizing that what suited me before looked so silly now! Lucky I had some friends who had been pregnant before and could lend me some tips (elastic band looped through my jeans button hole was a winner!), but the time soon came where most of my clothes became redundant and it was time to embrace maternity wear….eeeek!

We are SO fortunate these days that there is a greater choice for us mums to be, as back when my mum was pregnant, it was all about tunic dresses and doing what you could to hide your growing belly. It is such an amazing time in a woman’s life, and I would find it sad if we felt we weren’t able to show off the incredible changes our bodies are making. I believe we are lucky now to be able to and even encouraged to flaunt our bump, and to do so stylishly as well.

And so my search for stylish maternity wear began! Although what I’ve found so far is still not quite runway worthy, it is comfortable, on-trend and simple which is perfect for this stage of my life. I have noticed too that one of the biggest changes to my wardrobe has probably been wearing more fitted clothing, as before I was a loose top, skinny jeans kind of gal. Now loose tops make me look a bit silly, but those form fitting tops and dresses I used to mostly avoid, are my new best friends. You might also find that you need to play around with styles you are not used to, but take it in your stride and enjoy it as much as you can!

As it’s winter here in Tassie, I’ve put together a seasonal capsule collection that I think will get you through the colder (freezing!) months. I haven’t touched on stockings, underwear or sleepwear, but many of the websites mentioned offer great maternity options for this as well. I hope this offers you baby bumpers some inspiration to get you through the winter months in style!
